Description

Crossing the road between Classical and Electronic music, the GBRL PRKV Ensemble performs genre-defying music that responds to contemporary digital life. Think lyrical violins with dark analogue basses, modern melodies with processed pianos, angular strings with irregular funkified beats. After its formation in 2024, the ensemble has already enjoyed performances in Brussels, Triest, and the final night of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Performing music from Gabriel Prokofiev’s most recent albums, alongside interpreta- tions of works by Messiaen and Schnittke.

Appeals to fans of Classical, Electronic, Experimental, EDM, and Jazz.

Composer & band-leader, Gabriel Prokofiev holds a unique position at the cross-roads between classical and electronic music. His compositions instinctively combine his contrasting backgrounds in underground electronic music (he was a Grime & electro producer in the 00s), and contemporary classical (he has a Masters in classical composition, and his music has been performed by over 50 different orchestras world-wide). His music first gained international recognition when his genre defying Concerto for Turntables no.1 was performed at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in 2011, a work that has gone on to become one of the most performed 21st century contemporary concertos. As well as composing 9 orchestral concertos, he has composed many works for string and live electronics (which he performs live onstage) and has performed throughout Europe and America.

In the GBRL PRKFV Ensemble he is joined by four of the most talented classical musicians in the London chamber & freelance scene: Kasia Ziminska – violin  Herman Ringer – violin Freya Hicks – viola Zara Hudson-Kozdoj – cello

Kasia Ziminska (violin) started playing the violin at the age of seven and graduated with distinction at the Nowowiejski Music School in Gdansk, Poland in 2009. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe in venues including Vienna Musikverein, Salzburg Mozarteum, UNESCO Concert Hall in Paris and all major concert venues in London. She specialises in new music and improvisation.

Herman Ringer (violin) Originally from Buenos Aires, Herman was a violinist in the Teatro Argentino De La Plata Symphony for 14 years. He moved to the UK in 2018 to further his career as a conductor, producer and arranger. He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Placido Domingo, Gustavo Dudamel, Guy Chambers and members of Jamiroquai.

Freya Hicks (viola) Originally from Cornwall, Freya graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with a Masters of Music in 2021, and is in great demand as a session player in London. Freya has performed with Britten Sinfonia, London Contemporary Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, and 12 Ensemble.

Zara Hudson-Kozdoj (cello) is a London based cellist and conductor. Her Polish- Jamaican roots were the beginning of her own interest in cultural fusions- musical and otherwise. She has performed on some of the biggest stages in the world, from Glastonbury to the Royal Albert Hall, touring worldwide with Max Richter, and UK soul artist Celeste.
