Hadiya Masieh is the founder and CEO of the Groundswell Project, which is community-building organisation that seeks to cultivate cohesive communities that can act as a bulwark against extremism and hate. She has worked extensively within the field of counter extremism with her work focusing on female empowerment, inter-faith, tackling extremist misogyny and building resilience to violent extremism with at-risk groups. She led intervention work at the school Shamima Begum and her friends attended in Bethnal Green in 2014 and has helped to de-radicalise 100's of young people who were targeted by ISIS and other extremist groups including the Far Right. This work led to her being the co-author of the report 'Radicalisation and violent extremism - focus on women' and a UN report entitled 'Gendered Pathways to Radicalization and Desistance from Violent Extremism'. She was also a member of the UK Government’s “National Muslim Women’s Advisory Group” advising successive Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers. Her work has featured in the Guardian, New Statesman, BBC News, ITV, Radio 4, CNN, BBC World, BBC Asian Radio, Times of India, Times of Israel and others. Hadiya was also UK Ambassador for Women Without Borders promoting counter extremism narratives and a board member of the internationally renowned and award- winning peacekeeping organisation 'The Bereaved Families Forum' based in Palestine and Israel.
