TC.KYLIE x The Hourglass blends jazz fusion, gaming nostalgia, and cultural influences from Hong Kong, Japan, and the UK. Led by Kylie, whose electrifying performances on keyboard and synth keytar nod to Japanese jazz-rock icons, the group draws inspiration from Shaun Martin, Robert Glasper, and Japanese acid jazz bands like Fox Capture Plan, Jabberloop, and Toconoma. Their sound also channels the retro energy of classic Sega and Nintendo soundtracks.
Kylie was a news documentary journalist in Hong Kong, weaving human stories through politically complex landscapes. Her song “30% Soaked”, mixed by Golden Melody Award-winning producer 陳君豪 (Howe), was officially selected for the 2023 Toronto International Music Video Festival. Another track, “My Last Grief”, was a finalist in the 2022 Japan Indies Music Awards. With her previous band 初久 (choku), she earned consecutive Tone Music Award nominations and landed Top 10 spots in both Annual Music Video Awards and Top 10 Hits.
In 2024, the group headlined the EFG London Jazz Festival and supported Butcher Brown at a sold-out Jazz Café. Their debut instrumental album, featuring a reimagining of Joe Hisaishi’s “Merry-Go-Round of Life”, was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and Lightship 95 and released on limited-edition coloured vinyl to international acclaim.
The Hourglass features violinist Natasha Petrović, bassist Indigo Pearce, drummer Ayman Sinada, and Hong Kong multi-instrumentalist Victor Wu, whose mentors include David Braid and Matt Brubeck. Wu currently performs with the prestigious Band of the Coldstream Guards.
