Born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa, Mike Aremu began his musical journey at just eight years old, playing a variety of instruments in church. At 18, he chose to major on the saxophone—a decision that would shape his destiny as one of the most respected and influential saxophonists of his generation, renowned for bringing a heavenly sound to earthly stages.
Mike’s unique ability to blend the rich heritage of traditional African rhythms with contemporary gospel expressions has made him a global minister of music. His gift has opened doors to minister alongside iconic figures such as Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, Mary Mary, and CeCe Winans, as well as legendary jazz artists like Kenny G, Hugh Masekela, Najee, and India Arie.
He is the visionary behind Sax Appeal, Nigeria’s largest jazz concert, and has graced some of the world’s biggest Gospel platforms—includingnine performances at The Experience Lagos, and appearances at the London Festival of Life, FOL Wales, FOL Scotland, and the Greenbelt Festival.
In the UK, Mike has sold out landmark venues like the Jazz Café, Pizza Express Jazz Club, and the O2 Academy Islington, becoming one of the few African instrumentalists to achieve this feat. His new Christmas concert series, Sax in the Manger, launched to overwhelming success with a sold-out 2023, 2024 and 2025 editions.
More than a musician, Mike lives out his faith through service. He actively ministers in care homes, bringing music, comfort, and the message of Christ to the elderly. In celebration of his 50th birthday, he launched the 50 Care Home Concerts Challenge, performing across 50 care homes to spread joy and the Gospel to seniors in his community.
Mike's impactful ministry has been recognized with numerous awards, including the TOMA Award for Best Instrumental Album, multiple AGMA Awards for Instrumental Excellence, Crystal Awards, MEGA Awards, and AMEN Awards. He is also a two-time nominee at the prestigious KORA Awards and was honored as a JCI TOYP awardee for Best Self-Developed Personality.
Mike Aremu continues to shape the sound of Gospel music worldwide—one note, one soul, and one spirit-filled performance at a time.
