Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf

An intimate portrayal of trailblazing British trans activist Munroe Bergdorf

Date
June 6

In this intimate documentary, director Olivia Cappuccini chronicles the life of one of our great modern British icons: author, model, and leading trans activist Munroe Bergdorf. Seesawing between bold, dreamlike reconstructions of Bergdorf’s childhood and honest testimonials on her experience being swept under the relentless scrutiny of the UK media, LOVE & RAGE: MUNROE BERGDORF sensitively employs the vulnerability of Bergdorf’s personal life and experiences to investigate ever-vital systemic issues of transphobia, homophobia, and racism, all while reiterating the importance of community and painting a portrayal of what modern activism looks like. It is an inspiring insight into the resilience required of a trailblazer.

Director

Olivia Cappuccini is a director with a background in social and political curation. This took its shape in the form of, Scenes of Reason, a channel dedicated to decoding the political sphere in an abstract and bipartisan way.

Her documentary credits include The Haystack, a crowdfunded short about surveillance in the UK and most recently, Andy Murray: Resurfacing which Olivia shot, produced and directed before teaming up with John Battsek as co-producer and Passion Pictures.

Olivia has a knack for capturing the most intimate of settings with “nuance and sensitivity,” and although Andy Murray: Resurfacing was Olivia’s first feature, it is on Amazon Prime and considered one of their most successful sports documentaries thus far. In between longer form projects, Olivia loves collaborating on shorts to advance social activism, as well as throwing her hat in the commercial ring and capturing weird and wonderful moments through fashion and art.
