Patrice Vermette

Production Designer

Patrice Vermette is an Academy Award and international award-winning Canadian Production Designer best known for his work on DUNE Part 1, 2 and 3, ARRIVAL, SICARIO, PRISONNERS.

After completing his studies at Concordia University in Montreal in 1992, Patrice began his career designing music videos and television commercials. He rose to prominence in 2005 with the release of the Canadian indie film C.R.A.Z.Y., directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, which garnered international critical acclaim and commercial success.

His collaboration with Vallée continued with the Young Victoria, earning him his first Academy Award nomination in 2010.

Recent projects include Adam McKay’s VICE, Garth Davis’ FOE and long-time collaborations with Denis Villeneuve: ENEMY, PRISONERS, SICARIO, ARRIVAL (which brought him a second Oscar nomination in 2017) and DUNE Part 1 for which he received an Oscar. The sequel, DUNE Part 2, was released in 2024 and earned him a fourth Academy Award Nomination. DUNE Part 3 coming to movie theatres in December 2026.

In 2023, Patrice has ventured outside of the world of film making, collaborating with French Moroccan architect Lotfi Sidirahal (Atelier Pod) into the design of a destination village part of the Vision 2030 program in Saudi Arabia. Patrice is presently collaborating on another architecture project for a vacation resort in the U.S..

Some of Patrice’s works has also been featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, Musée de la Civilisation de Québec, Academy Award Museum, and Musée de l’Amérique Française in Quebec City.
