Nick is the Director of Robotics at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), where he leads a team of 300 innovators working at the intersection of extreme and hazardous environments with advanced artificial intelligence and robotics technologies. Recent high‑profile projects include delivering solutions for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, hot cells at the European Spallation Source, supporting the remediation of Fukushima Daiichi, and innovations in space‑based solar technology.
Nick’s team is central to UKAEA’s mission to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy, specialising in solutions to maintenance challenges on fusion machines. The team has worked across all types of fusion systems globally.
Nick has worked at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority for nineteen years. Prior to this, he had a diverse engineering career, including designing cryostats for superconducting magnets and improving productivity in food can manufacturing in several African countries. Nick holds a European Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Warwick.
