Miranda is the Director of Mental Health at Wellcome. She joined in 2019 to lead the ambitious mental health programme creating a step change in early intervention so that no one is held back by anxiety, depression and psychosis.

Miranda envisions the approach to mental health will be transformed over the next ten years. She is committed to driving forward new solutions emerging through digital tools and medicines, progressive policies and community approaches.

For over 30 years, Miranda has championed for better mental health treatments in roles across research, the civil service and clinical practice where she worked as a Clinical Child Psychologist in the NHS and in schools. Between 2012 and 2019, she was NHS England’s National Informatics Advisor for Children and Young People’s Mental Health. She co-founded the Child Outcomes Research Consortium which used evidence from routine practice to understand outcomes and impact. In 2017, she was awarded an MBE for her services to children and young people’s mental health.

Miranda concurrently holds the position of Professor in Evidence Based Research and Practice at University College London (UCL) where she founded the Evidence Based Practice Unit dedicated to bridging research and practice in youth mental health.

She is also a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

Outside work, she is a keen open water swimmer and, on occasion, can be found bobbing with seals in various coastal locations.
