Until late 2023, Gaven was the Director General for Technology and Chief Technology Officer at GCHQ. In his 7 years as CTO, he was responsible for the research into and development of a wide range of critical UK national security capabilities. Before that, Gaven held a range of technology leadership roles that invested in cutting-edge technology to support GCHQ’s rapidly changing mission. Gaven is now a Professor in Cyber Security at the University of Manchester, a technology advisor, a Non-Executive Director, and an active advocate for online safety.
