Amber Keegan

Competitive Swimmer / Policy Officer

Surfers Against Sewage

Amber Keegan is a retired international competitive swimmer and Policy Officer at Surfers Against Sewage. Through both her personal and professional life, she campaigns for cleaner UK waters and greater access to safe, swimmable spaces - pursuing change through top-down policy work and bottom-up community outreach. After a career representing Great Britain in open water swimming, in 2024 Amber completed a solo English Channel crossing in under nine hours, before travelling to join Epic Swim Maui - a UN Ocean Decade project and world-first circumnavigation of the island by swimming. In 2025, was also a lead organiser of the Thames Swim Against Sewage, drawing national attention to the pollution crisis in one of the UK's most iconic waterways. With a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Amber brings a blend of sporting, scientific, and policy experience to the water quality debate - driven by the belief that everyone should be able to enjoy the water safely, and reap the physical and mental health benefits it offers.
