Ahmed Hussain was appointed as Head of BBC Asian Network in 2020. Since then, he has helped develop and grow the network, which now reaches over half a million listeners a week, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous roles at pirate and community radio stations in East London and working with the Ministry of Justice as the Head of Prison Radio between 2016-2019. Under Ahmed’s leadership, the station has garnered multiple awards and accolades, including winning Gold as UK Station of the Year at the 2024 Audio and Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) and winning three prizes at the 2024 New York Radio Festival for Bloodlines, a podcast which explored the lives of the children of ISIS fighters following the groups defeat.
A proud East London native, Ahmed sits as on the senior strategy board for the UK’s new cultural quarter in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East Bank, representing the BBC. A unique collaboration between cultural institutions, world leading universities and the people of the Olympic boroughs, East Bank reflects the diverse communities of East London and the creative spirit and legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Ahmed is devoted to providing opportunities for new and young talent to get into broadcasting and the media, frequently sitting on industry panels and delivering masterclasses to help shape the next generation of radio makers.
