The Mental Health Crisis
The mental health crisis is not confined by borders—it is a global emergency, especially for children and adolescents. One in seven young people worldwide has a mental health disorder. Suicide ranks as the fourth leading cause of death among youth aged 15–29. COVID-19 only spotlighted what had long been growing: a massive gap between mental health needs and the systems in place to address them. In this panel, Dr. Harold Koplewicz, President of the Child Mind Institute, will speak to innovative global strategies for transforming care, education, and research in youth mental health. Drawing on groundbreaking programs in the U.S., Greece, Brazil, and Mozambique, Dr. Koplewicz will highlight scalable solutions that leverage public-private partnerships, technology, media engagement, and international collaboration to close this critical care gap. This conversation will inspire bold action from governments, funders, innovators, and media leaders—because tackling the youth mental health crisis is a shared global responsibility.
