Taponeswa Mavunga (Publicity + Cultural Impact)

Zimbabwean-born Taponeswa Mavunga is a globally respected music executive with over two decades of experience shaping culture, talent, and industry strategy. As Director of Africa at Sony Music UK, she leads the company’s vision for the continent, driving the global amplification of African artists and building impactful cross-market opportunities.

She began her career at Warner Music UK, rising from receptionist to a leading force in publicity, with key roles at East West Records and Atlantic Records. Over 12 years, she delivered award-winning campaigns for artists including Ed Sheeran, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul and Rudimental.

In 2014, she expanded her global footprint in Johannesburg, leading Talent and Music at Viacom. She later joined Columbia Records as Head of Publicity, working with artists such as Calvin Harris, Wizkid, Davido, Koffee and Rosalía.

Beyond her executive role, she serves on the executive steering committee of PRS Foundation’s Power Up initiative and is a founding member of the Black Music Coalition.

Recognised by The Metro, the BBC Woman’s Hour Power List, and Music Week’s Women in Music Roll of Honour, Taponeswa continues to shape the future of music globally.

  • If a session is fully booked, you’re welcome to try as a walk-up in case a booked attendee doesn’t attend.
