s w a n a s a (all letters are lower case) is a Hungarian sound artist and experimental music performer. She is among the electronic music creators who seek to push the boundaries of drone and ambient genres. The pursuit of progression signifies a contemporary, holistic emphasis: ambient music is no longer merely about presenting environmental sounds and associations linked to the environment, but a lifestyle: creating art connected to living in nature and ecological awareness. Swanasa is deeply connected to nature, allowing her field recording and organizing activities, as well as her synthetic soundscapes, to inspire each other. This is related to the ecological trends that advocate for the intertwining of nature and human-created technology as the guarantee for the survival and flourishing of life on Earth. She has performed at renowned international festivals such as Blue Noise (D), INTONAL (SE), O.Z.O.R.A. (HU), and UltraSound (HU), among others. Her 4 track debut EP ‘when you need to rest, let the sounds hold you’ was released in 2023 and was landed in Abul Mogard’s mix for Rinse.fr radio.
“A brilliantly constructed drama, this EP has both a certain restlessness and darkness, and at the same time something healing and soothing.”- The Quietus
Her second EP, which is a continuation of the first, was released in the winter of 2024 by the Los Angeles based record label called A Strengely Isolated Place. These two albums form the core of her Life, Death, Life live (hybrid) performance. Recently, she began to organize, interpret, and use her nature sound recordings a network of symbols. She believes that a symbol can have an impact through sound, or since there are also sound symbols, a passage can be ensured between the symbolic messages of sounds and images. This allows for a more universal experience while also inviting the listener a more personal exploration. Her concepts are fundamental stemming from folk culture, symbols, analogies and archetypes of Jungian complex analytical psychology, in short, originating from the human unconscious. But she examines the connection of all these and their musical applicability from the perspective of the digital age. She favors the interplay and boundary areas between real and synthetic sounds, thus strengthening connections between the metaphysical, spiritual and technological worlds by making their boundaries permeable. Her broader themes: totemism, rituals, altered states of consciousness, self-awareness, deep listening, breathing, meditation, life, death, life.
