Screen Keynote: Mickey Down and Konrad Kay

Mickey Down and Konrad Kay rose to prominence as the co-creators of HBO’s highly-successful series Industry, which The Guardian has labelled “TV’s wildest drama.” The show follows a group of up-and-comers at Pierpoint, a fictional investment bank in the bustling City of London. The duo of showrunners met as students in Oxford, and went on to work in finance, harnessing from real-life experiences to give the HBO hit a searingly tangible feel. Throughout its three seasons, Industry has superbly touched upon issues of race and gender discrimination, class inequality, and the mental and physical toll of high-pressure jobs, all while spotlighting a generation of new talent that includes Harry Lawtey (Joker: Folie à Deux), Myha'la (Bodies, Bodies, Bodies) and Marisa Abela (Back to Black). In this session, the two creatives will discuss their work as well as reflecting on the current landscape of British television.
