Immanuel 'Ras-I' Kerr was born in Kingston, Jamaica in August 1990, and like many musicians was exposed to music and musical instruments at a tender age. The multifaceted artiste not only sings, writes, and produces all his songs, but he is also known as a master instrumentalist specializing in the guitar, keyboard, and percussion. His music can be classified as Roots Reggae with notes of old school Rhythm and Blues and a little Funk, drawing his influence from exemplary Reggae veterans like the Abyssinians, Brigadier Jerry, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Uroy, and Peter Tosh. As well as Rhythm and Blues acts, Smokey Robinson, and Teddy Pendergrass. In fact, one would say Ras-I’s sound adds a refreshing twist to the traditional Reggae style that the new generation can also gravitate to, as he soulfully yet creatively taps into African and Dancehall grooves. Ras-I’s uniqueness lies in his ability to blend different genres while still maintaining the message of consciousness and love in his songs. "I make music to uplift and enlighten people. My music is relatable, and it still gives people a positive perspective on life…" Ras-I's music knocks on the door of your conscience and gives you compassionate advice like an old friend on a Sunday afternoon. The prolific artist is focused on creating a timeless catalogue of songs, one that he hopes will improve the legacy of Reggae legends before him. Recently, Ras-I has released "If You Don’t Mind", the third single off his highly anticipated "Kingman" EP which was largely inspired by his hit single, "Kingman Ting". The track which is a collaborative effort between Ras-I and music production group, Koastal Kings, was released on November 19 and is an ode to lovers across the globe. "If You Don’t Mind" can be described as a sultry, slow-groove track which serves as an "open-letter " about the artiste’s feelings towards a past romantic partner. Adding a “refreshing twist” to Ras-I’s traditional reggae sound, "If You Don’t Mind" blends Afrobeats and Dancehall to create a "slow-groove" bound to mesmerize those already swept up in love. In addition to "If You Don’t Mind", the entertainer’s most recent releases include “Lock It Down” and “Better Than That” featuring Blvk H3ro. The latter follows up on the singer’s highly successful single, Kingman Ting which was released late 2019. The track which was also a collaboration between Ras-I and Koastal Kings is now the artiste’s most viewed single on YouTube with more than 33,000 views and appeared number one for 3 weeks on Vybez Radio in Nairobi, Kenya. The “Kingman” EP is slated to be released February 18, 2022. "Hear My Call," one of Ras-I's most recent singles, stands as a soulful invocation, showcasing the artist's ability to weave poignant lyrics with melodic reggae rhythms. The track takes listeners on a spiritual journey, exploring themes of introspection and connection. Ras-I's emotive vocals coupled with the evocative instrumentation create an immersive experience that resonates long after the music fades. In "SkyWay," Ras-I joins forces with fellow reggae luminary Jessie Royal, creating a collaborative masterpiece that elevates the genre. The synergy between their distinct styles results in a track that is not only musically captivating but also carries a powerful message. "SkyWay" becomes a testament to Ras-I's ability to craft songs that transcend mere entertainment, offering a deeper connection to listeners through meaningful narratives. As Ras-I continues to evolve and push the boundaries of reggae music, these recent singles serve as a testament to his commitment to authenticity, artistic innovation, and the timeless power of reggae to inspire and uplift.
