Giorgio Vitale (Curation + Digital Art)

Navigating the Digital Art World: Curation, Institutions, and Global Opportunities

Giorgio Vitale is a curator and technologist based in Berlin, Germany. In 2017, Vitale founded synthesis, a genre-defining cultural organization critically engaged with digital art. Over the past seven years, the gallery has produced more than 25 exhibitions of new media art in Berlin and abroad, both online and on the blockchain. Notable recent curated exhibitions by Vitale include AFTERLIFE at HAU Hebbel am Ufer (Berlin, Germany), MATERIAL POETRY at Haus der Elektronischen Künste (HEK) (Basel, Switzerland), A Picture Can’t Take Me at SXSW 2024 (Austin, Texas, USA), I KNOW at Feral File/synthesis gallery (Berlin, Germany), and Symphony for the Metaverse at MEET Digital Culture Center (Milan, Italy). In addition to his work with synthesis, Vitale is recognized for his public speaking engagements at internationally renowned art forums and festivals. He has served as a mentor at the New Museum’s art and tech incubator NEW INC (New York, NY, USA), at SXSW (Austin, TX, USA), and at the arebyte Gallery (London, UK). Furthermore, Vitale is a member of the International Selectors Committee at Lumen Prize (London, UK), where he assists in selecting the finalist artists for the competition.

Attendees can speak with him about how to take a project from concept to exhibition, collaborating with institutions and partners, building visibility for digital art practices, and producing exhibitions across different formats and contexts.

Information for mentees:

  • Please arrive 5 minutes early to check in for your mentor session. Late arrivals (anyone not present at the start of their booked session) may lose their slot to a walk-up attendee.
  • If a session is fully booked, you’re welcome to try as a walk-up in case a booked attendee doesn’t attend.
  • We would recommend preparing a brief introduction about yourself, along with any specific questions or areas you’d like guidance on from your mentor.
