A reconciliation and dialogue between gay father and son which sheds light on the father's hidden life, revealing the struggles of being closeted and echoing Taiwan's forgotten LGBT community.
Father’s Video Tapes is originated from photographer Yang’s recollection of his accidental discovery of his father’s sex tapes of him and another male when he sneaked in his father’s bedroom during his adolescence. This led to an unexpected understanding of his own father’s sexual orientation and his life as a closeted man.
This project is a set of conversations between father and son that spans some twenty years and a work that speaks to the LGBT community in Taiwan forgotten by history. The three-fold narrative leads the viewers from the real space to VR, and back again, giving the audience a highly theatrical experience of the physical installation, the body, and the interactivity.
