Description

Rising star Mortimer, who GRAMMY.com recently hailed as one of the key “artists shaping contemporary reggae,” originally aspired to be a soldier or auto engineer before his profound passion for music led him to pursue a different path. In 2014, he introduced himself to the reggae scene, quickly captivating audiences with his lyrical depth and emotional range.

In 2024, Mortimer released his acclaimed debut album From Within on Overstand Entertainment/Easy Star Records. Featuring the powerhouse collaborations "In My Time" with GRAMMY-winning legend Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, and “Bruises,” with 2023 GRAMMY-winner Kabaka Pyramid and rising star Lila Iké, as well as standout singles such as "Whole Heap" and "Not A Day Goes By", the album won Best Reggae Album at Reggaeville's 2024 Awards, and was voted Best International Album 2024 at Riddim Mag. He won the Impact Award (Reggae) at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards, and Billboard has called him “one of contemporary reggae’s guiding lights.” GRAMMY.com praised his “raw, confessional lyrics,” while Okayplayer highlighted “an honesty that lingers with listeners”. The album offers a heartfelt exploration of love, self-discovery, and the duality of human experience. It blends classic reggae with R&B, ‘80s pop, and other genres, standing at the crossroads of tradition and innovation.

From Within follows his 2019 EP Fight The Fight and its standout single “Lightning” – with over 25M YT views and counting. His own singles, along with guest features on tracks by Protoje, Keznamdi, Jaz Elise, and Khalia, have struck a chord with audiences worldwide and solidified Mortimer's position as a breakout artist in the scene.
