María Mónica Gutiérrez, aka Montañera, has established herself as one of the most intensely unique voices hailing from Colombia (Rolling Stone Magazine). Her latest solo album “A Flor De Piel” was released in November 2023 via the Austin, TX-based label, Western Vinyl, with support from Help Musicians Foundation. It has received glowing reviews from Pitchfork, The Guardian, Electronic Sound Magazine, Iggy Pop (BBC Radio), David Byrne, among others.
With 9 albums in tow, the London-based artist has a thirteen-year trajectory with Montañera (Electronic/Folk/Experimental) & her bands: Suricato, and Ságan. Her music has taken her throughout Europe, the USA, and Latam. She has supported artists such as Ana Tijoux, Aterciopelados, iLe, Kevin Johansen and Silvana Estrada. Performing on stages as important as Southbank Centre, V&A Museum, Alexandra Palace, Rally Festival, Brian Eno’s Studio, MaMA Festival, KEXP, SXSW, Smithsonian Museum, Kennedy Center, Lollapalooza, Festival Estéreo Picnic, BIME, and others, whilst also recording at Abbey Road Studios. Her music has appeared in 8 Netflix series, and her previous solo albums “Encarnación” (2017) and “Salvadora” (2020) both received Honourable Mention by the Colombian Ministry of Culture. She is a Marca Colombia Artist granted by the Colombian government.
