Description

Malaika Naa Lamley Aryee-Boi (stage name Malaika) is a Ghanaian-German-Cameroonian singer and creative artist currently based in Accra. Her passion for music started very early in life, shaped heavily by her parents’ love for everything from soul, funk and R&B to zouk, makossa and afrobeat. She is moved by music she describes as ‘feeling like a warm hug,’ having been influenced by soulful women artists such as Jill Scott, India Arie & Cleo Sol.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Malaika is also deeply engaged in academic research and feminist organizing. She has worked at the University of Ghana and the University of South Africa in her capacity as a researcher, while demonstrating her commitment to social change through her work with organizations such as the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), the Flame On Initiative and the Young Feminist Collective (YFC).

Malaika explores a sound that is soft and honest and free, a reflection of the world she would like to see. With her signature velvety head voice, soothing tone and gift for simple but heartfelt lyricism, Malaika is beginning her journey through the musical worlds of ne0-soul, jazz and R&B, all the while ensuring she is reflecting her rich roots and influences in highlife, afrobeat and makossa.

A multi-talented creative, Malaika also explores photography and creative direction, blending her artistic vision with her passion for storytelling.
