Lewis G. Burton Artist | DJ | Performer | Activist
Lewis G. Burton is a London-based multidisciplinary artist, DJ, performer, and activist, renowned for their innovative contributions to the city's queer underground scene. Their work spans performance art, music, and event curation, consistently challenging societal norms and celebrating queer identities.
As the founder of INFERNO, one of London's most influential queer club nights, Lewis has played a pivotal role in redefining the city's nightlife. Established in 2015, INFERNO serves as a platform where performance art, experimental music, and radical self-expression converge, providing a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ individuals. The event has garnered critical acclaim in publications such as Dazed and i-D for its impact on fostering inclusivity and creativity within the community.
In December 2022, Lewis debuted their first full-length performance piece, TRANSPHORIA, at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. This experimental theatre production reimagined the narratives of transgender gods, gender non-conforming goddesses, and intersex deities throughout history. By intertwining performance art with underground club culture, TRANSPHORIA unravelled the trials and tribulations of self-discovery, addressing themes of shame and dehumanisation while celebrating trans joy and solidarity.
Beyond the club scene, Lewis is a founding member of London Trans+ Pride, established in 2019 in response to increasing transphobia and the need for dedicated trans representation. The inaugural march attracted approximately 1,500 attendees, and under Lewis's continued involvement, the event has seen exponential growth, with over 55,000 participants in 2024, making it one of the largest trans pride marches globally.
Their contributions to the arts and LGBTQ+ activism have earned them recognition within the creative community. Lewis, alongside the rest of the London Trans+ Pride team, received the Future Fighters award from Gay Times in 2022. They have also been featured in publications such as Dazed, i-D, Frieze, and British Vogue for their innovative work blending music, art, and activism.
