Description

Kay Greyson has recently released the MOBOs edit of her latest single ‘Lifestyle’ featuring L Devine via Soul Kitchen / EMI North. A new version from her acclaimed album ‘Chekhov’s Gun’ .

The release was timed to coincide with Kay’s MOBOs fringe performance and her participation as the North East Face Of The MOBOs 2025 which took place in her home city of Newcastle.

It follows previous singles ‘On The Table’ and ‘Hollywood’ in aiming for the stars. With ‘Chekhov’s Gun’ Kay is making music full of heart and soul, with ambitious production and scale. These mini-epics are born in Newcastle but with a global agenda. It’s a big, bold, welcoming piece of work that will establish Kay Greyson and her collaborators as ones to watch over the coming months.

It’s built on the bedrock of a new and thrilling community. Kay has been working with a close-knit group of inspiring creatives in the north-east and LA. From stylist to producers, choreographers to videographers, injecting some much-needed positivity and joy into the world.

Alongside hip-hop Kay draws on other key influences - punk, rock and jazz are all evident, both musically and in terms of attitude. She has landed on a very modern sound, and it’s injected with an incredible energy that strives to push things forward with socially-conscious lyrics.

Growing up in a working-class area of Newcastle, Kay was one of the few people of colour in the city. She started to hang out with like-minded kids, congregating at the local McDonalds for safety. This began to build over time, and she was soon involved in the arts scene in the city which was beginning to flourish with a heady mix of different cultures coming together. house parties and clubnights emerged and it was here that Kay built the confidence to perform in her own right. She started to make connections to other artists and people she would work with, meeting producers, dancers and artists. Over the last few years they’ve been building together and now with ‘Chekhov’s Gun’ they are ready to go.
