Description

Dayo Bello is an English singer-songwriter who grew up in a Nigerian household in Southeast London. From an early age, Bello was immersed in music, influenced by the diverse sounds he encountered on channels like MTV Base and Channel U. Artists such as Usher, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Saw Dasafo, and N-Dubz shaped his early musical landscape. In addition to listening to contemporary music, Bello was deeply engaged with gospel music through his church involvement, where he played drums and sang in the choir. This exposure to gospel greats like Kierra Sheard, Kirk Franklin, Kim Burrell, and Donnie McClurkin further enriched his musical experience.

Recognizing his innate understanding of music from a young age, Bello began composing by transforming his poems into songs, structuring them into verses, pre-choruses, choruses, and bridges. His early passion led him to start writing for other artists in 2018. Bello notes that writing for others is like translating their stories and emotions into lyrics, whereas writing for himself grants him the freedom to express his own thoughts and feelings without any constraints.

Bello's breakthrough came with his debut single, "Mine," which garnered attention from music enthusiasts worldwide and even caught the ear of Chance the Rapper's manager, Pat the Manager. This recognition was a pivotal moment for Bello, affirming that his music resonated far beyond the confines of his bedroom. Bello's strength lies in his voice, which he uses to convey honesty and vulnerability. By placing his vocals at the forefront of his songs, he effectively communicates emotion through both his leads and harmonies, creating a powerful and authentic musical experience.
