A young Black rapper tries to make it into Spain’s hostile underground scene

Ingride Santos presents the story of Lati, a young Black woman rapper trying to break into the often racist and misogynistic underground battle rap scene in Spain. Not only must Lati overcome the challenges of any budding creative, she must also reconcile her passion for freestyle with her mother’s Muslim faith, finding in the throbbing beats of rap music not only a much-needed escape but also the chance to express herself in defiance of those who aim to suppress her. Santos’ short film of the same name, was previously nominated for a Goya.
