Description

Baldo Verdú fuses soulful pop melodies with afro-Latin drums, creating a unique blend of electronic and organic rhythms. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Verdú was raised by an extremely talented family of folkloric musicians. Verdú projects his artistic upbringing from the musical technicality from his father, to the flare for dance and musical curation passed down from his mother. In order to explore the roots and traditions of his culture, Verdú began his musical journey by mastering the vivacity of afro-Venezuelan percussion. Later he gravitated to guitar, an instrument that connected his heritage with more universally known music styles he took interest in such as pop, rock, jazz, soul and funk. In 2014 an opportunity came up to make the bold move to travel to London where Verdú founded Tonto Malembe, an acclaimed afro-Venezuelan fusion band who have since performed at several major Festivals including Glastonbury Festival, the Latin American Film Festival, Secret Garden Party, London Remixed Festival, Bestival, End of the Road Festival and Latitude Festival. In recent years Verdú brought focus to developing a solo career, finally establishing himself as Baldo Verdú. His music style is heavily denoted by contrasts; encompassing the grief of self-exile as well as the pleasure of discovering new cultural and artistic perspectives.

Verdú has created a name for himself in the music industry and the international music scene working with huge names such as Jamiroquai, Manu Chao, FKA Twigs, Mac DeMarco, Jay Buchanan (Rival Sons), Primal Scream, Theon Cross (Sons Of Kemet), Jamz Supernova (BBC Radio 6), Domenico Lancellotti (Gilberto Gil), Ricardo Dias Gomes (Caetano Veloso), Moses Boyd, Carwyn Ellis (The Pretenders, Edwyn Collins), Shawn Lee, Greg Foat, Art Theman and the list goes on. He has also played several major European festivals such as Glastonbury Festival, Primavera Sound, Montreux Jazz Festival, End Of The Road, Secret Garden Party, Sonar Festival. As well as legendary live music venues such as Ronnie Scotts, Jazz Cafe, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall (London), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), and most recently The Outernet in Central London in collaboration with The Royal College of Art. After intense years working on several music projects (Including recording his band Rio 18’s recent second album at the legendary London Toe Rag Studios in Hackney - where The White Stripes recorded Grammy winning ‘Elephant’), Baldo Verdú is now set to release a full body of works written, arranged and produced by himself. The new album is mixed by veteran recording engineer Phil Brown (The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Queen, Marvin Gaye, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Cat Stevens, Traffic) and set for release across 2025/ 2026. One not to be missed.
