Ava Joe: she's the spiritual daughter of the London soul scene and visually the second coming of Brigitte Bardot, in possession of an extraordinary voice which aches with the blues as if she's walked this earth before us and knows the foibles of the heart all too well. She was discovered performing in the bars of North London while she made ends meet as a waitress - and once her voice is heard it's not easily forgotten. Her music belongs in late-night jazz bars and the small hours of the morning while you think about a certain someone. The influences of Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse are undeniable, but Ava is just as drawn to the darker undercurrents that lurk beneath Radiohead cuts.
Her long-awaited debut EP, Try Me, is an invitation as tempting as any to step into her world. The project was written at a time in Ava's life when she was drawn to the things she shouldn't be. Destructive and dangerous scenarios. The people we should stay away from but find ourselves inevitably drawn to. She released her debut single 'Black Smoke' which blazes with a timeless, Americana heat and turned heads in six figures. Then followed 'Polly Pocket' and the soul slowburn of 'Black Summer Babe', along with the ever-timeless 'Eleanor Close'. On the strength of her music and storytelling, already Ava Joe has won champions in HUNGER, Wonderland, The Line of Best Fit, Notion, The Most Radicalist among many more. There's real magic here: true romance rarely found in music these days which Ava Joe revives so effortlessly.
