Alex is the manager of Queen Mary University’s Centre for Creative Collaboration. His role there is to sustain long term partnerships with the creative sector and connect academics, artists and creative organisations to collaborate and make change. Prior to his role at Queen Mary, he was the Creative Engagement Manager at Rich Mix, an arts centre in Bethnal Green, where he collaborated with many grassroots organisations and freelance artists, musicians, photographers and filmmakers to create opportunities and projects for young people and local communities in east London. Alex is an experienced creative youth worker who has run projects in schools, colleges and youth clubs using music, art and drama to support young people to build confidence and develop skills. He was the Participation Producer at the Almeida Theatre, where he ran open access workshops and produced a radio drama and online festival during the pandemic, and was Associate Director at The Big House, a creative charity working with care leavers. He has worked in script development at the BBC and Sister, and as a theatre director he worked on plays and projects at the National Theatre, Old Vic, Birmingham Rep, Lyric Hammersmith and Young Vic. He also plays saxophone and has performed at festivals including Glastonbury, Lovebox and Citadel.
