Hongza

London-born, Vietnamese-Chinese singer-songwriter Hongza returns with his brooding new single “Out Of Place” on April 23rd via LOVELY PEOPLE (Cold Desires, Cathy Jain, Hilang Child) an independent music label and artist management company, founded as a space for emerging artists to stay true to their vision without compromise. The track, produced by Larry Hibbitt (Nothing But Thieves, Sea Girls, Sundara Karma), sees Hongza explore a moodier side to his artistry and is a continuation of the coming-of-age themes from his last EP.
“Out Of Place” is a song about not feeling like you belong anywhere, especially in the music industry as an ESEA (East and South East Asian) artist in the UK in Hongza’s case. Extremely resilient and dedicated to his craft, he has transformed his setbacks into a driving force behind his music and how he creatively collaborates, fostering a sense of belonging and recognition for other British Asian musicians.

Hongza says: “As well as it being a song about lacking a sense of belonging it's also about getting screwed over as a musician, a bit of a F U music industry song. There’s a lot of conversations happening about fair pay for artists and I get in my feels about that issue on this song.”

“Out Of Place” is the first new music from Hongza since his last EP, Coming Of Age, which was released in September 2024. The EP was praised by critics, with Rolling Stone UK calling it “a raw examination of identity, self-worth and love.”

Hongza’s electrifying live shows have seen him play with notable acts such as The Cribs, Bad Nerves, Somebody's Child and Deary. He has also lit up prestigious festivals and venues like The New Colossus in New York, The Great Escape in the UK, Supersonic in Paris and Effenaar in Eindhoven. This year has already seen him take the stage at his biggest headline show to date at The Shacklewell Arms and shortlists to play at Truck, Tramlines and Y Not, with more shows coming.
