A portrait of war in Ukraine captured through the country’s schools
While portrayals of war often evoke images of bloodshed and destruction, Kateryna Gornostai chooses to capture the devastating consequences of the ongoing war in Ukraine through an observational documentation of the country’s educational system. Within school walls, pupils — from kindergarten to high school — and teachers grasp the flimsy structures of tradition, finding in the well-known rhythms of education a sliver of comfort and normalcy at times of terrible grief and chaos. Through careful observation, Timestamp offers much-needed insight into the day-to-day reality of war and how there is not a single defining reality at times of conflict. - Rafa Sales Ross
